Lauraine Snelling’s dream to write began with her love for storytelling, especially stories for young girls involving horses. What About Cimmaron? is the re-issue of her first ever published novel Tragedy on the Toutle. Her Norwegian heritage spurred her to craft An Untamed Land, volume one of the Red River Bjorklund family saga. Due to reader demand for more stories about her fictional family, she spun off two more series: Return to Red River and Daughters of Blessing, with the newest volume Rebecca’s Reward to be released in fall 2008. Two more historical sets, Secret Refuge, a trilogy set during the Civil War and a four-book series called Dakotah Treasures have joined the list. Writing about real issues within a compelling story is a hallmark of Lauraine’s style, shown also in her contemporary romances and women’s fiction, which has probed the issues of forgiveness, loss, domestic violence and cancer. In The Way Of Women, three women wonder how to survive the aftermath of a volcanic eruption. In Breaking Free, Lauraine shows us that prisons are not always made out of steel and concertina wire.
With over 60 books published, her work has been translated into Norwegian, Danish and German as well as produced as books on tape. When not writing, Lauraine can be found with paintbrush in hand happily creating flowers, barns and landscapes or in her garden, coaxing spectacular blooms from seeds, bulbs or corms. She and her husband Wayne live in the Tehachapi Mountains , along with Chewy, a watch-less Bassett and a watchful cockatiel named Bidley.
