Dr. Richard Mabry practiced medicine for over thirty-five years, first in private practice, then as a professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He achieved worldwide recognition as a teacher, lecturer, and the author or editor of eight best-selling medical textbooks. After the death of his first wife, he turned his talents to non-medical writing. His book, The Tender Scar: Life After The Death Of A Spouse (Kregel Publications, 2006) has ministered to thousands since its publication and is currently used as a resource in numerous churches, grief groups, and seminaries throughout the United States.

Dr. Mabry is a frequent contributor to Upper Room Devotional Guide. His work has also appeared in In Touch Magazine, Grief Digest, Christian Communicator, and Praise Reports. His first novel of medical suspense, Code Blue, will be published by Abingdon Press in April 2010.
