Running on fumes

, by

This past Sunday, my hubby and I headed to the beach to visit friends and catch some sun rays. But the trip turned cold when the display on the dash showed we had 14 miles before empty. Gulp. Nothing but highway ahead. The 14 soon turned to 10. We prayed. Then the indicator turned to 5. Then 2. No gas stations, or exits anywhere either. Finally, the displayed showed zero miles. That’s when I swallowed what I might have said and instead spoke softly. “Honey, God still works miracles.” I fidgeted in my seat. “A gas station will appear…

Perchance to Dream by Christine Lindsay

, by

Often when I see only a glimpse of a scene, or a reflection in glass, it strikes me as a doorway to another world—a magical place I long to go. The same sort of feeling a favorite book does for me—like Heidi taking me up the Swiss Alps, or Ash and Anjuli-Bai from Far Pavilions whisking me off to long-ago India. From my living room couch I can look into my kitchen and see the glass door to the pantry. This is often what I see when I’m having my devotions, while I have a cup of tea in my…

When Something Happens

, by

Hello, again!  Maureen Pratt here for my monthly blog post. And what a month it’s becoming! No doubt many of you have multiple works in progress gracing your keyboards, computer screens, notebooks, and imaginations. Some deadlines, too. The life of a working writer. And then…something happens. How do we handle health and other emergencies and keep our writing in mind and heart, too? We are writers, after all, and writers, well, we write. As I write this, I am in the midst of a significant family emergency. One minute, I was working on a new magazine article, and hours later,…

Writing on Faith

, by

Sherry Kyle here, writing from my laptop in California.  “So, what are you working on now?” a friend asked me the other day.  “I’m tweaking something I wrote awhile ago,” I said, trying to sound more positive than I felt. During the past couple of weeks I had attempted to breath new life into an old manuscript.  “Cool. What’s it about?” she asked.  I wondered how much to say. Why was I so uncertain? Maybe it was the fact that this manuscript had yet to find a publishing home.  Do you ever feel like you’re writing on faith alone?

Speaker Must Do’s…

, by

Greetings, Dear Friends! Susie Larson here… I typically post on the last Thursday of each month on building a speaking platform. Please forgive me for being AWOL now and then. I’ve had had an insane travel schedule this spring but we are so thankful to God for His faithfulness in our midst. I want to connect with you today about a number of “Speaker Must Do’s” that I think will help you as you work to build a speaking platform.

When Words Won’t Work

, by

Hello from CAN Secretary Jeanette Hanscome. Like most CAN members, my writing life is often complicated by . . . well . . . life. As I write, edit, and teach I am also dealing with some stuff that will eventually provide riveting material for a novel or devotional book but for now is just plain discouraging and frustrating. As if the circumstance wasn’t upsetting enough on its own, I’ve also had to accept that I can’t do anything now but pray. I’ve argued, debated, and spoken the truth in love only to discover that my gift for words will…
