Life gets rough; family falls apart. Our health betrays us. Facing all this, how can we possibly inspire, educate and change the hearts of those who read our writing?

They expect to read great things. But we sit at the computer, our mind blank. And restlessness makes our creativity fade. The strength we had suddenly turns to weakness.

The apostle Paul knew this feeling. And what God said to him, He is saying to us too: “My power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

With Christ’s power at work in us, we draw from our hardships. We choose to constantly praise Him. We look beyond circumstances. And in the midst of tough times, we writers and speakers have the opportunity to bring Christ to crisis and His love for hopeless situations.

With each book, each message, His strength comes alive in us to boldly declare: “Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard; he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping. For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver. You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs.  You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.” (Psalm 66:8-12).

As we nestle in His word, the abundance of His love billows through our own words. From our valleys comes the examples that put clarity to our emotions. And from our convictions lived, come the insights that leap into the hearts of our readers. And from the freedom we found emerges the liberty to write and speak of proven triumph and perfect peace.
