Hi there, Sherry Kyle here, writing from the central coast of California with a word of
"Sherry encouragement for you on this Monday before we celebrate Thanksgiving.

Over
the last twelve years, I’ve taken writing classes, gone to conferences, been a
part of critique groups, have had a couple of agents, and several editors—each
person or workshop helping me to further my career as a writer. I’m grateful
for the writing friends I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know and the writing
opportunities sent my way. I feel blessed to have signed five book contracts
with traditional publishers. I have much to be thankful for. And yet my attitude
isn’t always filled with appreciation for what God has done for me.

Why?
Deep down, I’m selfish. I want more. More book contracts, more readers, and
more money for all my effort. I’ve questioned whether I should be writing or
looking for a job with a regular paycheck. When my focus shifts from what God
can do through me to being all about me, I become discontent. And
lately, my attitude has been far from grateful.

I
haven’t been writing much the last few months. Instead, I’ve been orchestrating
a total kitchen remodel after our recent move. I’ve been busy picking out
cabinets, granite, appliances, and deciding where we should hang the chandelier
and pendant lights, among other things. I’ve enjoyed these past few months,
especially now that we’re cooking in our new kitchen.

I
believe God knew I needed time away from writing to refocus—to surrender my
self-centered desires and come before Him with His will in mind instead of my own. He’s the one in control of my
writing.

Colossians 2: 6-7 says, “So then,
just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and
built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing
with thankfulness.”

When our relationship with God
takes a backseat, it means we’re behind the wheel. If I’m in the driver’s seat,
there’s a good chance I might get lost. But if I continue to read my Bible,
live as Christ would, and spend time talking to God, my faith will be
strengthened, my path straightened, and I will be grateful!

We can be thankful because God
cares for each and every one of us. I Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on
him because he cares for you.

Thanksgiving blessings on your
day,

Sherry
