Greetings from Ava Pennington in sunny Florida. I’ve always been a curious person, and today I’d like to start with a question or two…

Why do we write?
Why do we market our books?

The easy answers are:
We write because we like to write.
It’s our passion.
We market to sell the books we write (and hopefully earn a little cash!).

But is that all there is?

For some, it is. Still, for those of us who call ourselves Christian writers, there should be something more.

We write to glorify God. We market our books to reach others with a God-glorifying message.

First Peter 4:10-11 tells us, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms….so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”

It doesn’t matter if you write romances, speculative fiction, non-fiction, or any other genre. Does your story – your book – your article – your devotion – in some way glorify God?

You might:

  • offer hope to a hopeless world.
  • offer a Savior to a world mired in sin.
  • describe a battle between good and evil in ways that glorify our Victor.
  • explain biblical principles in practical ways.
  • entertain in God-honoring ways.

A recent survey conducted in the United Kingdom revealed that 52% of the respondents believe in UFOs, while only 44% believe in God. I don’t know how valid this survey is, but I do know that it is indicative of a world that has lost its anchor and its moral compass.

God has gifted you as a faithful steward of His grace.

Your words – those you write and those you speak – are needed now more than ever. Don’t grow weary. Don’t give up. Do your part…and watch God use it for His glory.
