Hola from Janet Perez Eckles…Igniting Your Passion to Overcome
This past Friday, I figured out what to do to reach success.
“Okay, guys,” I announced to my 7- and 5- year old grandkids, “here is the game. Take this straw and blow on the cotton ball gently enough so it will stay between the two lines marked with masking tape on the floor.”
They both grabbed their straws, took turns, giggled and did their best.
Then my turn came. This blind Nana got on her hands and knees, placed the straw in front of the cotton ball. I blew and blew, but nothing happened. The fuzzy ball remained still. I blew till my cheeks got sore. Then I decided to feel around. And as I did my fingertips found the reason. My grandson and my granddaughter conspired together. They tricked their blind Nana by placing a straw to block the cotton ball.
We all laughed, especially me as I encourage a sense of humor. (Here’s a glimpse of this in action with my friend’s grandchildren.)
But when on the path to success, instead of laughter, we face stress when our path is blocked. We try and try till our brain hurts; and still we can’t move forward.
That’s because we don’t see the obstacles, yet God does. Here are four of them which He and only He can remove:
- Sin. UGH! Could that be true for us Christian, Bible-reading, leaders, authors and speakers? As long as we walk in this human shell, sin can be what rumbles inside us. But God reaches and gives this promise: “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12)
- Fear. Maybe terror is the obstacle that holds us back. God removed that too: “In righteousness you will be established: Tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you.” (Isaiah 54:14)
- Sorrow and grief. Sometimes we walk around in the sackcloth of heartache, no wonder we can’t reach the triumph God has prepared. But He removes all that when we declare: “You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.” (Psalm 30:11)
- Ambition. Self-seeking success, selfish gain will take us only so far. But true success comes when we apply this truth: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3)
Are you like me? Blind to what might be blocking the path to the finish line? Or did God reveal the obstacle so He can showcase His power to remove it?
