Word on the Street

The word on the street about Captive Brides Collection with Christian Authors Network members Angela Breidenbach and Darlene Franklin is great reviews for this Barbour Publishing book with 9 historical romance stories releasing tomorrow, Oct. 1st! Review: The Captive Brides Collection is a wonderful selection of nine tales dealing with captivity. Captivity may be physical, mental or spiritual. It is anything that binds us against our will. The reader travels from America to Australia, from 1655 to the late nineteenth century. The stories have similar themes of injustice, prejudice, trust, redemption, new beginnings and second chances, and fighting for freedom. Down…

A Chat with Author Edie Melson

, by

Greetings from Marti Pieper in post-Irma Florida! Where I live in the central part of the state, we are still dealing with various residual effects, some minor and others not. But overall, we remain grateful to God for his watchcare over us and his obvious sovereign hand. Edie Melson lives several hours away in beautiful South Carolina, but I have had the privilege of seeing her every February for the past few years at the Florida Christian Writers Conference. We have many mutual writing friends, and I respect her as a wonderful writer, social media expert and woman of God….

Karen Whiting’s 25th Book Celebration

, by

To celebrate my 25th book release I held a party at a boutique that showcases local artists and authors. I created a special scavenger hunt to get everyone checking out the store. I hid small signs of my book covers all around the store. Each one included a number of the release order. As people arrived, they received an alphabetical list of the titles so they could fill in the corresponding numbers as they spotted the signs and turn them in to win pries. The newest titles included a devotional cookbook The Gift of Bread: Recipes for the Heart and…

Finding God’s Purpose

, by

By Dianne Barker “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain” (Psalm 127:1NIV). Got it. Unless the Lord does it, our best efforts will fail. Synonyms for “vain” are ineffective, hopeless, unsuccessful, unproductive, futile, useless, worthless. Why would anyone pursue such a life? Who gets up in the morning desiring your day’s work be ineffective, unsuccessful, unproductive, futile, useless, worthless? We’re off and running, determined to achieve something significant. But if we’re trusting in our own wisdom and strength, our best efforts will be…

Book Reviews-A Waltz for Amber & Pursuing Gold

Happy Autumnal Equinox! As a Washingtonian transplanted in Texas, let’s just say this is my FAVORITE time of year (even though it will feel like summer for another month…it’s the promise of things to come when the season changes). There’s just something about a nip in the air and –yes, I’ll admit it–a Pumpkin Spiced Latte that make me feel like I’m getting a cozy hug from my heavenly Father 🙂 And the bonus? BOOTS! We have some excellent reviews for your cozy fall reading, A Waltz for Amber by Kimberly Rose Johnson and Pursuing Gold by Cynthia L. Simmons. Posted…

Important Questions for Seasoned Authors

, by

Important Questions for Seasoned Authors by Judith Couchman In the early stages of a writing life, every publishing opportunity thrills us. We accept almost anything we can authentically create, and hope for much more. We’re excited to exercise our writing gift, and sense we’re stepping in the impressions of God’s footsteps. Anything seems possible. A decade or so later, if we’re still writing, we can effuse these same joys. Or not. As circumstances morph, we do, too. When we explore and transform spiritually, we might uncover fresh ways of thinking and serving. Or we could lose enthusiasm for our publishing…

A Chat with Author Buck Storm

, by

Greetings from Colorado. Davalynn Spencer, here, excited to introduce this week’s author, Buck Storm. Welcome, Buck. Tell us about your book, Truck Stop Jesus. An eccentric, damaged actress and a washed-up ball player collide in an epic road-trip story. Throw in a couple oddball bounty hunters, a forgotten movie-star boat captain, a cowboy priest, and a dashboard Jesus that’s more than meets the eye. It’s a quirky, heartfelt ride! With a setup like that, I can’t wait to read it. What inspired you to write this book? The story basically came to me in full on a road trip from…

Rags to Riches

, by

By Julie B. Cosgrove All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6a). An eighty year-old friend told me of a cruel joke her older siblings would play on her when she was a little girl. They told her they were going to give her to the “rag man.” She explained a man came through the streets with a horse-drawn carriage collecting old rags and other broken items people no longer wanted. Her brothers and sisters were in essence telling her she was junk. Unwanted. Originally homemade rag dolls were…
