A Chat with Author Sandra Glahn

, by

Autumn greetings from Sarah Sundin in California. Today I have the honor of interviewing Sandra Glahn, a multi-published author who focuses on the women of the Bible and gender issues—talk about timely topics! Extensive reading, research, and travel inform Sandra’s writing, and I think you’ll find her interview fascinating! Sandra, tell us about your book, Vindicating the Vixens: Revisiting Sexualized, Vilified, and Marginalized Women of the Bible. I served as general editor for a compilation from a diverse team of theologians who, as the subtitle says, take a fresh look at Bible women who’ve wrongly been sexualized, vilified, and marginalized….

GPS for Life

, by

I have always hated driving in unfamiliar cities because I couldn’t watch the road and my map at the same time. In the past, I worked hard to memorize directions and search for the next turn while maneuvering through traffic. Even getting in the right lane to turn can be a challenge when I don’t know the area.   Rather than venture out, I often chose cowardice and stayed home. I could imagine myself embroiled in a major accident while floundering through alien streets. However, I am quite grateful for the GPS on my phone. A holder on the…

Thankful … Years Later

, by

Thankful… Years Later by Judith Couchman New York, New York. As a young woman, that’s all I wanted. In New York City, I would morph into a valued editor and writer. I would create a stylish lifestyle. I would prove my talent and worthiness. I would become who I longed to be–patterned after female writers in the biographies on my bookshelves–but of course, not addicted and less screwed up. But even with those lavish dreams, I didn’t move to New York to work and write. Although in my late twenties a reliable NYC company offered me a job, I turned…

Subsequent Inspiration

Subsequent Inspiration by Linda Rondeau “The remarkable thing about spiritual initiative is that the life and power come after we ‘get up and get going.’ God does not give us overcoming life—He gives us life as we overcome.” — Oswald Chambers Chambers wrote these words a long time ago. How did he know I’d be so tired today I couldn’t think straight? How am I supposed to inspire others when I can’t get inspired about what to make for supper? There are days I think inspiration has permanently left the building.   I’m a cancer survivor. Chemo and radiation treatments left me…

A Chat with Author Cynthia L. Simmons

Happy Pre-Thanksgiving Week from Kevin Thompson on the peninsula where passing Thanksgiving and going straight to Christmas commercials apparently does pay $200. We’re sitting here on the front porch, enjoying the breeze and the cooler high-60s temps…at 8:40 p.m. Today, I have the privilege of sharing and interview with fellow CAN author Cynthia Simmons. Welcome, Cynthia! Congratulations on your most recent book! Give us the back cover copy… Peter Chandler and Mary Beth Roper faced impossible odds keeping their Confederate bank afloat. Mr. Roper, Peter’s partner, has financial expertise, but his weakened heart is failing. While caring for her ailing…

Clouds and Sunsets

, by

I love the ever-changing colors and textures of a sunset. There’s something so peaceful about it, almost as if the day exhales its worry and stress in preparation for the night. Maybe that’s why the best sunsets include clouds, those masses of water vapor we usually associate with storms. In fact, some of the most beautiful sunsets happen in the aftermath of a storm when the abundance of cloud surfaces all reflect the varying hues of light as the sun slips below the horizon. Several decades have passed since I took my first airplane ride, but I still remember that…

A Chat with Author Becky Harling

, by

Marti Pieper here! Welcome to up-and-down Mount Dora, Florida (where the temperatures bounce almost every day), and an author interview with the lovely Becky Harling. I first met Becky at a conference three years ago in nearby Orlando, although we’ve been cyber-friends much longer than that. At the time, Becky had broken her ankle and was having lots of adventures driving a motorized cart for the first time. I had an adventure of my own when I returned the cart to the rental counter for her (no lives were lost). Let’s hear from Becky about her books and her life—both…

Vindicating the Vixens: Revisiting Sexualized, Vilified, and Marginalized Women of the Bible by Sandra Glahn Kregel Academic, November 2017 ISBN0-13: 978-082544413 Book description:  Did the Samaritan woman really divorce five husbands in a world in which women rarely divorced even one?
