kathyide

Hi! I’m Kathy Ide. In addition to being a published author, I’m a full-time professional freelance editor. For CAN, I’m blogging about tips for writers based on the manuscripts I edit.

Commas: Cities and States

Always use a comma between city and state, whether the state is spelled out or abbreviated or designated by the two-letter postal abbreviation. Use a comma after the state except when followed by the zip code. Examples:

Waukegan, Illinois, is not far from the Wisconsin border.

Phoenix, Ariz., is my hometown.

Fargo, N.D., is the location of my story.

Send the proposal to 123 First Avenue NE, Fullerton, CA 92821.
