Christian Authors Network vice president, Susan G Mathis, is a multi-published author of stories set in her childhood stomping ground, the beautiful Thousand Islands in upstate NY. The Fabric of Hope: An Irish Family Legacy and Christmas Charity, a novella, take readers to a time and place few have gone. So does Katelyn’s Choice, the first in The Thousand Islands Gilded Age series, that releases in March, 2019.
Susan is also a published author of two premarital books with her husband, Dale, two children’s picture books, seven stories in compilation books, and hundreds of published articles.
In 2016, Susan released her first two children’s picture books, Lexie’s Adventure in Kenya: Love is Patient and Princess Madison’s Rainbow Adventure. Susan is a former preschool owner and operator, a language arts elementary school teacher, a missions curriculum writer for the Association of Christian Schools International, and is now a grandmother of four. Both books teach character traits every parent, grandparent, teacher, or friend would like children to learn.
Before Susan jumped into the fiction world, her first two books were nonfiction, co-authored with her husband, Dale. Countdown for Couples: Preparing for the Adventure of Marriage, was released in 2008, made the Tyndale best-seller list for several weeks, went international in 2011, and has helped thousands of couples. The Indonesian version released in 2010, and the Spanish version released in 2013. Their second book, The ReMarriage Adventure: Preparing for a Life of Love and Happiness, has helped thousands of couples getting ready to blend their families.
Susan is also an author in various book compilations including three Chicken Soup for the Soul books, Ready to Wed, Supporting Families Through Meaningful Ministry, The Christian Leadership Experience, and Spiritual Mentoring of Teens. As editor and editorial director for a dozen magazines and newsletters and founding editor of Thriving Family magazine, Susan has also written hundreds of magazine and newsletter articles.
For over twenty years, Susan has been a speaker at writers conferences, teachers conventions, writing groups, and other organizational gatherings. Susan is vice president of Christian Authors Network (CAN), a member of Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW), the Association of Women Speakers & Authors (AWSA), and Evangelical Press Association (EPA). She has taught writing workshops for many writers conferences including internationally, and at the Colorado Christian Writers Conference, Writing for the Soul Conference, Write-to-Publish Conference, Baptist Press Journalism Conference, Evangelical Press Association (EPA), ACFW-CS, Springs Writers, and others. Susan also mentors writers and editors, leads a monthly writers group, and co-leads the regional EPA meetings.
In her spare time, Susan is enjoys speaking, coaching aspiring authors, and working on a several book projects. Susan makes her home in Colorado Springs, enjoys traveling globally with her wonderful husband, Dale, and relishes each time she gets to see or Skype with her grandchildren in South Africa.
