Greetings from Jackie M. Johnson! As 2014 draws to a close, it’s a good time to reflect on your marketing efforts over the past year and prepare for the year ahead. Here’s what I like to do. First, I look over my content marketing and social media. I review the analytics on my website, blog and Facebook page and note the pages that were most accessed and the posts that received the most views and “likes.” What worked well? What didn’t?

, by adminHola from Janet Perez Eckles…Igniting Your Passion to Overcome During one of the first writer’s conferences I attended a decade or so ago, I met another writer. She was in the bathroom blowing her nose and sniffling. We chatted a bit and she related her devastation about the comments that had been scribbled throughout her manuscript.
Your Friendship Circle for Success
, by adminYour Friendship Circle from Pam Farrel Text Message: “A frnd lvs @ al tms.* * “A friend loves at all times . . .” Proverbs 17:17 NIV My friend, Dawn Wilson, and I, wrote a book called LOL with God: Messages of Hope and Healing for Women. It is a unique devotional that has a humorous story on one page and a daily devotional on the other, and the theme through the book is “text messages” between you and God. In one of these devotionals, Dawn shared who is in her friendship circle, and at the Christmas season, as I…
Tips from the Pros: Carol McAdams Moore
, by adminMerry Christmas from Sarah Sundin in rainy (at last!) California! Today I have the joy of interviewing Carol McAdams Moore, the author of two new devotional books for tween boys and girls. Recently I introduced my fourth- and fifth-grade Sunday school class to the books, and they were a huge hit with kids and teachers alike! Carol, how did you get into writing? How many books do you have published? I began as a teacher of the deaf. Many materials I used in the classroom needed to be rewritten, using specific word choice and sentence structure. I also had to…
Captivating Content
, by adminGeorgia Shaffer from Pennsylvania Recently, someone gave me a list with “21 Sure-Fire Content Ideas.” Captivating content, the list suggested, reminds readers of important things like “life is short,” “our dreams can come true,” and “we matter.” The list also recommended content that causes us to laugh, a topic that educates and entertains us or shares something with unexpected twists and turns. [i] When I look for a writing topic for a new article or book, I often ask myself questions like these: Do I know something that will help people feel better or look better? How can I encourage…
Death by Publishing Contract!
, by adminHi, Dave Fessenden here, to talk about writing issues, and today I’d like to discuss the issue of legalese, specifically in publishing contracts. I recently had to explain to a friend that the phrase “place of physical execution” means the physical location where the contract gets signed, and does not place the author’s life in danger! (Well, she knew that it couldn’t mean that, but it never hurts to ask!)
Tips from the pros: H. L. Wegley
, by adminMerry almost-Christmas, everyone! Davalynn Spencer here, from Colorado where mountain pine scents the air—if you’re in the mountains, that is. This week we welcome H.L. Wegley with a few of his tried-and-true tips. Tell us, Harry, how did you get into writing? I had written professionally in the scientific literature for several years, but only started writing fiction after retiring six years ago.
Marketing: Sharing Your Book’s Testimony
, by adminA note from Carol McAdams Moore Last month, I wrote about Six Tips for Planning a Book Signing. Today, I want to share one of the major benefits of a book signing — the opportunity to interact with readers. For Christian authors, among other things this is a chance to share the testimony of your book. The words marketing and testimony may not seem to go together at first. Marketing might be defined as promoting and selling something, in this case a book. We need to consider why a potential reader would consider reading any given book. The story…
Tension and Conflict Part 7 – Stretching Tension
, by adminWelcome to CAN Blog where we share information with you on new books, writing tips, and much more. Hello from Gail Gaymer Martin. And before I begin, let me wish you a blessed and merry Christmas For the past seven posts, I’ve cover the topic of Tension and Conflict. This is a major part of writing fiction since it is emotion that captures the reader and keeps them hanging on to the pages even when dinner time rolls around. We all want readers to love our work and good conflict triggers tension which is shown through emotion. Today the topic…
Writing the Truth
, by adminWe writers have a tremendous responsibility to write the truth. Look at what has happened to our country because the media, as a group, has refused to write and speak the truth. This failure to write and speak the truth has brought our great country to the brink of tyranny.
