Kathy Cassel is the author of ten books for Christian preteens and most recently a YA fiction book, Freerunner. After years of writing daily devotion and interactive non- fiction books for girls, Kathy felt a deep passion to write issue-based YA fiction. One of her favorite genres to read, she often ended a book with the feeling that the story offered too many graphic details and little to no hope. She felt a strong desire to write realistic stories that would not only entertain, but also offer hope and healing.
Freerunner released May 2020 with Elk Lake Publishing, and Catching Hope releases February 2021 also with ELPI.
Kathy has a B.S. degree in elementary education from Grace College, Winona Lake, Indiana, and a M.Ed. with a reading specialty from The University of North Dakota. She and her husband, a retired USAF member, have eight children (four sons, four daughters), five of whom are adopted, three of those from Haiti. They live in Panama City, FL. Kathy’s favorite times are those spent traveling or having adventures with family members.
While working on an underwater crime scene fiction idea, Kathy ended up both learning to scuba dive and ride a motorcycle to better understand her main character. She is fine with trying new things to accommodate her characters as long as none of them decides to skydive!!
