Greetings from Sarah Sundin! Today I have the joy of interviewing prolific and award-winning novelist Kimberly Rose Johnson. Kimberly’s here to share about her latest novel.
Welcome, Kimberly! Please tell us about your book Found: An Almost Perfect Christmas.
Bethany Evans loves her job teaching second graders, but she wants more. Could Toby and his dad hold the key to making this Christmas extra special, or will the trouble they are facing not only ruin Christmas but destroy their lives in the process?
Sounds intriguing! What inspired you to write this book?
I moved to Montana this past year and I was inspired by my surroundings. Ironically, after I wrote this story, I ended up taking a job as a Title One Para.
Montana is such a beautiful setting for a novel! Why did you write this book?
I wrote this book as part of the Puppies for Christmas series that I, along with several of the bloggers at the Sweet Romance Reads blog, published this past Christmas. Don’t let the word series fool you though. The books have nothing to do with one another besides featuring a puppy.
Well, puppies—what more could you want? So what, other than puppy cuteness and shenanigans, do you hope readers will take away from this book?
That anything is possible with the Lord.
Such an important thing to know. What was your greatest challenge in writing this book?
I wasn’t sure I would get it written. We had just moved to Montana and life was not conducive to writing. Finding a quiet space where I could wrap my brain around the story was a challenge since we were living with my parents at that time and helping to build their guesthouse which is where we now live.
Having moved this past summer, I can relate somewhat. With so many books under your belt, do you find yourself returning to certain themes in your writing?
I seem to go back to fear a lot and how the Lord can help us overcome whatever the fear is.
How has being a writer impacted your relationship with Christ?
I am much more comfortable talking about my faith. I depend on Him so much to help me write. I feel like writing has drawn me closer to Him.
Why do you write romantic suspense?
I’m a huge fan of romantic suspense and from day one of writing that’s what I wanted to write.
Do you have an unfulfilled dream?
Yes. I want to sell screenplays. I’ve cut way back on the number of books I write so I could learn the craft of writing screenplays.
What fun to learn a new skill! What do you read for pleasure? What are you reading right now?
Lately I’ve enjoyed memoir and contemporary romance. I’m currently reading Sold on Love by Kathleen Fuller.
Do you have pets and do they inspire your writing or hinder it?
We used to have a yellow lab. She was such a sweetheart. I would say she definitely has influenced how I write animals. That being said, she interrupted my writing on a daily basis because she wanted attention. She was a nice distraction.
A nice distraction indeed! So what are you working on now? Tell us about your next project.
I am currently working on writing screenplays. As of right this minute I don’t have another book in the works.
Sounds exciting! We can’t wait to see what you come up with. Thank you for sharing with us today, Kimberly!
