A Chat with Author Peggy Cunningham

, by

October greetings from Marti Pieper in lovely Mount Dora, Florida, where fall is in the air—not because our temperatures have dropped significantly but because of the growing number of pumpkin spice products available at local stores and coffee shops. I’m not quite sure what season it is where today’s interview guest, Peggy Cunningham, lives, and you’ll see why in just a few moments. I first met Peggy at the Greater Philadelphia Christian Writers Conference and am delighted to have her join us on the CAN blog today. Welcome, Peggy. Please tell us about your new book, Dancing Like Bees: 31…

My Chaos Theory by Sydney Avey

, by

My Chaos Theory  Sydney Avey Chaos is an element of most transitions. My husband and I live two lives.  Half the year we shelter under the California Gold Country oak and pine trees in the shadow of Yosemite’s granite cliffs.  The other half a year we settle into Arizona’s Valley of the Sun, nestled up against the White Tank Mountains. In California, I sing on a praise team in a small community church. In Arizona, I sing with a fifty-voice choir in a large Presbyterian church. The Phoenix area offers resources we don’t have in Groveland—recreation centers, accessible shopping, theaters,…

Voices in the Night

, by

By Janet Chester Bly A wounded friend of mine wept. “I prayed very hard my husband wouldn’t leave. Every day and night I prayed. But he left anyway.” What kills hope? Fear or rage will. Guilt and doubt try to. Sin does. Prayer answers of “No” and death of a dream can. Hopelessness has the ability to make us mentally intoxicated—without reason, moderation, or judgment. Our wits become all spur and no rein. We lose confidence that good things will ever happen again when we hit rock-hard bottom. The traumas of this world soil innocence and blind our view of…

Creating and Connecting

, by

Creating and Connecting By Susan G Mathis Why is our desire to connect with others so important to our human experience, whether in person or through story? While there may be a few hermits and others who are anti-social, most of us long for human interaction. We were, indeed, made for relationship. We are created in His image, the God who longs to be in relationship—with us! Moreover, God wants us to speak into His creation, so He allows us to be a part of His work on this earth. How cool is that? We don’t have to have a…

A Chat with Author Sydney Avey

Greetings from Sarah Sundin in California! Today I have the joy of interviewing novelist Sydney Avey. I had the pleasure of getting to know Sydney through the American Christian Fiction Writers San Francisco Bay Area chapter. I think you’ll enjoy getting to know her too! Sydney, please tell us about your novel The Sheep Walker’s Daughter. When Dee loses hope of ever knowing her heritage, a series of puzzling discoveries cause her to reconsider. Why did her mother send money every month to the Basque Relief Agency? And what does the Anglican priest who shows up at her door know…

The Music of Sounds

, by

THE MUSIC OF SOUNDS  by Jeanne Gowen Dennis Sing to the Lord all the earth. (Ps. 96:1)  Musical Sounds I’ve been thinking lately about the amazing gift of sounds. The songs of birds. The tinkling of water in a stream. The whispers of wind through leaves. The crashing of waves. The music of various instruments. Voices lifted in song. The Human Voice Most of all, I’ve marveled at the human voice. We can hum a tune, belt out a popular song, sing an aria, cheer someone on, shout out a warning, talk in normal tones, or whisper a prayer. So many…
