I’ve heard for so long “Don’t expect your publisher to really help market your book” and “My publisher did zip to sell the book,” but that has not been my experience. I have found they will team with you and get behind your ideas. Few create complete campaigns but it’s amazing what they’ll do if you are open and creative.

, by adminAloha from Karen Whiting! I’ve been writing for nearly two decades and continually spent time networking to build bridges and marketing strategies. We can’t do everything at once but with persistence we can build various platforms. Let me share how the past has been a bridge to recent and upcoming releases.

Relationships in Writing
, by adminAloha from Karen Whiting I am so thankful for relationships I’ve developed with writers, authors, and readers, in the world of publishing. It’s a small world in many ways and networking is vital to success. But it’s also a place of friendships and connections. So many of my contracts came from relationships I developed. And, when I’m having problems, the friends I’ve made pray and support me. Think beyond contracts and what you can get, to what you can give and how you can extend friendship.
Tips from the Pros: Karen Whiting
, by adminGreetings from Sarah Sundin! This interview is especially fun for me, because Karen Whiting got me started doing these interviews on the CAN blog and coached me through many posts. Finally it’s her turn to be interviewed! Not only is Karen a multi-published author of various nonfiction books, including devotionals and children’s books, but she’s a valuable CAN board member, currently serving as our treasurer. I’ve benefitted from her wisdom and humor and heart in our e-friendship, and I know you’ll enjoy what she has to share with us today. Karen, how did you get into writing? For many years people…

Power and Benefits of Groups in Marketing
, by adminAloha from Karen Whiting CAN offers great benefits to readers and blessings to members. It’s good to follow CAN because we post about marketing that others can adapt. It’s also good to see what a group does to glean ideas for your own group. Let’s chat about how to multiply efforts greatly through team efforts that benefits all the members and blesses others.
The industry and retail stores
, by adminI spent a lot of time this month with other writers as well as editors and retailers. I spoke at the International Christian Retail Show in early July and attended two conferences. The trade show continues to decrease in size but the energy and hope abounded. The publishing industry has done more to partner with author organizations.
Promoting books through Articles
, by adminArticles tend to reach far more readers than books. That makes it important to write articles for magazines, especially ones that include author bios or links and mention the title of a book. The articles promote the books. I enjoy writing articles. I also help authors in CAN write for MTL (More to Life) magazine that’s published by the Munce Group (CAN partners with that group to reach out to independent Christian book stores).
