This is our archive pageA Chat with Author Becky Harling
, by adminGreetings from Sarah Sundin in California! Today I have the joy of interviewing Becky Harling, a renowned speaker and multi-published author, whose life mission is to awaken hope by pointing people to Jesus. And we could all use hope, couldn’t we? Welcome, Becky! I understand your new book, Listen Well, Lead Better, was cowritten with your husband, Steve. Please tell us about the book. Listen Well, Lead Better helps leaders at any level consider how well they’re listening. Since listening is 80% of good communication, leaders might be sabotaging their own influence with their listening skills. In Listen Well, Lead…
Honoring the Fallen
, by adminHonoring the Fallen This Memorial Day feels different than those in recent memory. I’m sure its sense of untimeliness is related to the COVID-19 issues swirling around us. We need community – as believers and as humans – and that sense of community has been threatened. Today is a perfect day to remember those who have fallen while fighting for our communities. Those warriors cannot hear our thanks, but their families and descendants can. May we acknowledge their sacrifices by remembering that nothing we possess or enjoy has been gained or achieved on our own. Others have contributed. The Psalmist…
On Horses and Storylines
, by adminMiss Christie’s little black ears twitch at each note as morning birds serenade us. We start most mornings (God, weather, and coffee supply willing) in our treetop screened porch, nestled under blankets, Bible and journal nearby. Very soon, Miss Christie and I will begin our days from the pleasurable confines of Cosmo, my Class B RV. The three of us are hitting the road on Memorial Day, heading to Oklahoma City, where we will reside in an RV lot for a ten-day horse show. The Amazing Miss Clara—my nine-year-old quarter horse mare, Jess, our trainer and several other dear friends…
A Chat with Author Cynthia Simmons
, by adminHello from Colorado. Davalynn Spencer here, relishing the near-summer sunshine and welcoming author Cynthia L. Simmons today as she shares about her unique nonfiction release and how it could be a boon to parent-educators today. Cynthia, tell us a little about your book. Pursuing Gold: A History and Critical Thinking Curriculum goes with my mystery novel, Pursuing Gold. The book contains more historical information about the Civil War era and teaches critical thinking. It includes puzzles, activities, and deeper information on how money changed during the war between the states.
Special Gifts for Grads
, by adminAre you searching for just the right gift for a graduate in your life? Consider giving high-school or college grads something they will cherish for years to come—a “YOU Gift.” It’s free and it will make this season special. Here are five suggestions: Express value. Graduates are under a lot of pressure. They’re adults now but they may not have every detail of their future in place. (We don’t either, right?) One way to encourage them is to tell them the positive qualities and skills you see in them. Resist offering advice but instead, affirm them. You just might…
Fast-Food Pick-Up Line
, by adminNot only did I forget my cell phone the morning I had a newspaper stringer interview at Chik Fil A, I also failed to write down the gentleman’s name that I was supposed to interview. I knew the focus of my article – interview an 80-year-old community member who served as a chaplain for a large car dealership in the area. Eighty-years-old and he meets participating employees every morning at 7:00 AM to share a devotion and prayertime, and I get so frazzled explaining schoolwork to my homeschooled teenagers that I dart out of the house without a phone and…
A Chat with Author Kathleen Rouser
, by adminGreetings from Sarah Sundin! Today I have the joy of interviewing novelist Kathleen Rouser. Kathleen says she’s a fan of the Three C’s—cats, coffee, and chocolate. I’ll join that fan club. And I think you’ll enjoy what Kathleen has to share with us! Welcome, Kathleen! Please tell us about your novella, Flying into Love in the Love is in the Air anthology. Unable to say no when others need her, Talia Sampson took on her deceased aunt’s advice column and the care of her special needs niece. Then new veteran, Ben Tanner, shows up unexpected on her doorstep. Hurt many…
Riding in a Covered Wagon – Vicariously!
, by adminBy Donna Schlachter Several years ago, hubby and I visited a museum that offered a virtual Covered Wagon ride. We sat inside a wagon bed and looked ahead of us where the driver and oxen or horses would normally reside. Then a short film played about the wagon going down over the river bank and across a fat-flowing river. The wagon bed we sat in rocked and rolled according to the view on the video, and about the only thing missing was we didn’t get dunked. That was a lot of fun, and the experience gave me a whole…
A Chat with Author Janet Perez Eckles
, by adminGreetings from Marti Pieper in springtime in Seneca, South Carolina, where we’re bonding in isolation as we recover from the recent tornado and remain on lockdown due to COVID-19! I’m grateful that, during our years in Florida, I bonded with today’s interview subject, my dear friend, Janet Perez Eckles. She’s a lovely lady with a unique story and message, and I know you’ll enjoy her interview! Welcome to the CAN blog, Janet! Please tell us about your book.
