Sherry Kyle, here, writing from my laptop in central California.
Do you feel tired today? Has the festivities of Christmas worn you out? Maybe you had a deadline on top of all the shopping, decorating, and baking this past month and you’re at the end of your rope. Or perhaps it’s been a dry season and you’re hoping for a new book contract.
I’m a wife and mom to four active teenagers (one is twelve, but she might as well be thirteen) and the activities of Christmas has worn me down. I’ve also had a busy year writing two contracted books, a girl’s devotional as well as a novel, but now as I tweak and put the last finishing touches I wonder what my next contracted project will be.
Psalm 63:1 says, “O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.”
I can relate with the author of this Psalm, can you? My soul thirsts for God and my whole body craves to have an intimate relationship with Him.
Verses 6-8 of that same chapter the author goes on to say, “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.”
Do you lie awake at night and meditate on God? Sadly, I don’t. Instead I find myself mulling over my day or worrying about things I can’t control. If I have a fitful sleep it’s because I’m focused on my exhaustion, and myself not on my Heavenly Father.
The good news is that if we meditate on God, the ONE who sent his son to earth as a baby to save us from our sins, we will be able to weather the seasons of life. He will help us. If we cling to HIM instead of our worries, his strong right hand will hold us securely in place.
We have reason to SING FOR JOY!!!
