Like-Minded

Sherry Kyle here, sending you greetings from Central California.  As writers we can become discouraged. Day after day we sit alone by our computers attempting to fill the screen with meaningful words. We receive many rejections before the acceptance call finally arrives. And often times we wonder if our writing is good enough. What can we do during the discouraging times?

Writer’s Treasure

, by

Hi! It’s Sherry Kyle writing from Central California.  As I was considering how I could encourage you today in your writing journey, my thoughts turned toward Scripture. There is no better way to keep our eyes and hearts focused on God than to point to the Bible, the best-selling book of all time. Here are some verses to treasure as you write for Him:

Write Anyway!

, by

Hey, this is Sherry Kyle writing from my laptop on my kitchen table as I drink my morning coffee.  As I pondered what to write, I glanced at my mug and was struck by how two little words could have so much impact. Write Anyway!  Yes, that is the slogan printed across my cup. There are so many distractions keeping us from placing our fingers on the keyboard—family responsibilities, chores, friendships, etc. I’m sure your list is as long as mine. Sheesh! How can we get that manuscript complete with so many things pulling us in different directions?

Voices

, by

Aloha from Karen Whiting, CAN treasurer Years ago I listened to the voice of my prayer partner over the voice of God. I believed God wanted me to write, but she said she had prayed and believed I wasn’t creative enough and didn’t believe God called me to write. Soon after, military moves separated us and I lost track of her. Looking back, I know God wanted me to listen to him and not the wrong voice. We need a discernment to choose what voices to listen to of the many we hear.

, by

Hello from Jeanette! I’m in the process of last-minute preparations for the Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference (March 26-30). This conference is always a highlight of my year. If you have never attended a conference like Mount Hermon, I highly recommend it. Here are just a few of the things I love about writers’ conferences:

Why I Love New Writers

, by

Jeanette here, wondering how March got here so fast. A little over a week ago I had the fun of teaching at the Castro Valley Christian Writers’ Seminar. This is a conference that attracts a lot of beginning writers. Today, as I continued work on a buddy program for the upcoming Mount Hermon Christian Writer’s Conference, I couldn’t help reflecting on why I love new writers.

Hug a Writer

, by

Jan here, writing on a drizzly but pleasant evening from northern California. Did you know that yesterday was Hug-A-Writer Day in Canada? I’m wondering how many people knew about it—in Canada or anywhere else. I mean, did you get a hug yesterday? For being a writer? As writers and speakers we enjoy those hugs once in a while, don’t you think? If not physical arms wrapping around our shoulders, at least someone in our corner who is willing to encourage us from time to time and say, “Hey, keep going! You can do it! You’re on the right track.” But many days…

Speak Life!

, by

Greetings, Dear Friends! Susie Larson here… I post on the last Thursday of each month, which these days, puts me on holidays. Oh, well. 🙂 My monthly theme is around building a speaking platform. When was the last time you had a conversation with someone, and something they said about knocked you over? Maybe it was one word or a short phrase or a word picture, but when those words went into your ears, your heart beat faster and maybe your cheeks even felt flush. Does that ever happen to you? Sometimes those moments happen while watching a movie, reading…
