Musing From a Tired Marketer

, by

I sat down to write this month’s post and realized I’m tired of marketing. Some of you may find it shocking that I’d admit to that in writing. On the other hand, some of you may find it refreshing, even burden-lightening. I hope it is the later. Don’t worry, I’m not throwing in the towel, but there are a few things I’ve learned from being in this familiar place.

Lessons Learned – Follow a Checklist Before Every Event

, by

Hi everyone! Pamela S. Meyers here. I’m sure you’ve all had times when the best laid plans…well you know the old cliche. I had one of those days last week, but I learned some critical lessons how to make sure your planned promotional event goes off without a hitch. I had a scheduled speaking and signing event to promote my book, Love Finds You in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. This was an afternoon I had been looking forward to since it was in a unique setting – A retirement home. Little did I know how much this event would turn out…

CAN members attended the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS) in St Louis in late June. That's the place where the industry meets-publishers, editors, authors, and especially retailers gather and interact! CAN members shared a power point presentation on successful author in-store events and held a drawing for CAN authored books (gave away over $1600 in books to two retailers at the show). This photo shows a retailer from Nigeria with CAN members. She was one of the winners.

Kathy, how did you get into writing? How many books do you have published? I’ve wanted to write since I was a child and kept that dream through high school and college, graduating with a communications degree from Southern Illinois University. I was offered a…

Tips from the Pros: Cecelia Dowdy

Greetings from Sarah Sundin in California. As Valentine’s Day approaches, it’s especially fun to feature Christian romance author Cecelia Dowdy! Cecelia has a unique background for a writer – with a degree in finance, she worked as an accountant for a travel agency and was able to travel the world. Nothing stokes story ideas like travel! Cecelia, how did you get into writing? About fifteen years ago, I didn’t have a book to read during my lunch break, so I started writing. I’ve been writing ever since. How many books do you have published? Five. Three of my titles (John’s…

Greetings from Sarah Sundin on a drizzly day in northern California. As the year draws to a close, we begin to plan for the coming year. What a wonderful time to feature Dianne Neal Matthews, the author of four daily devotionals! Her newest offering, Designed for Devotion: A 365-Day Journey from Genesis to Revelation, just released, and it looks like a fabulous way to tour the Bible in 2013. Dianne, how did you get into writing? I always fantasized about being a writer but didn’t do anything about it. Then in my mid-forties, I began writing occasional articles for my church’s…

An end-of October hello from Marti Pieper in beautiful Mount Dora, Florida, where the advent of fall means temperatures have dipped to a chilly fifty-five degrees (yeah, I know). Today, I have the privilege of sharing with you the marketing and publicity expertise of multi-published author Tracy Higley. I know you'll enjoy her insights as much as I have.  Tracy, how did you get into writing?   I've been writing since I was a little girl–short stories, newspaper articles, poems, plays, and fiction. I got serious about publishing about thirteen years ago and decided to write a novel and try to…

Relationships in Writing

, by

Aloha from Karen Whiting   I am so thankful for relationships I’ve developed with writers, authors, and readers, in the world of publishing. It’s a small world in many ways and networking is vital to success. But it’s also a place of friendships and connections. So many of my contracts came from relationships I developed. And, when I’m having problems, the friends I’ve made pray and support me. Think beyond contracts and what you can get, to what you can give and how you can extend friendship.
